Soul Searchers

Recruiting is going on now for 2012 Soul Searchers.  Rehearsals began January 29th and will continue each Sunday at 2:00 p.m. unless otherwise posted.  Returning Soul Searchers are encouraged to bring new people to participate.

The 2012 Musical
"The Question"

The Question tells the story of Ian, a student who has known his share of hard knocks. His parents have divorced and Ian is bitter and rebellious. In his quest to ease the pain he has explored risky and self-destructive behaviors. Alarmed, Ian’s mother begins bringing him to meetings of the church youth group, where his bitterness immediately gets the attention of the other group members. The Christian students realize that Ian needs help, but they are intimidated by his attitude and insecure about their own abilities to share their faith. As Ian’s tough façade begins to soften, his new friends come to realize that with the proper preparation they really can share their faith and reflect the love of Christ to others.

Soul Searchers is a youth choir directed by Scott and Nicole Hughes, based out of Eastport United Methodist Church.  Beginning in January, they rehearse each Sunday until June.

Soul Searchers began performing musicals in 1972 under the direction of Bill Kerns.  Made up of middle (sometimes younger), high school and college age youth (including second generation singers), their musicals have included many styles — folk, country, patriotic, gospel, and contemporary.  There has been considerable talent exhibited over the years, and productions have used lights, costumes, microphones, skits, choreography, soloists, puppets, sign language, ballet, instruments, and ribbon dancers.  Support crew and chaperones help set up and break down concerts.

Scott and Nicole Hughes, both musicians and educators, plan the musicals and direct the group.  To become involved with Soul Searchers, please contact Eastport United Methodist Church at 410.263.5490.  Or email them at eastportumc@verizon.net.
