Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors

Thanksgiving Baskets
Baskets or bags overflowing with the “fixins” for a Thanksgiving feast are donated each year to approximately 50 identified families in need from area elementary schools. The Missions & Outreach Team thanks everyone for their generous food and monetary donations – special thanks to our “Gracious Greetings” members for crafting the inspirational gift tags, and to Kevin and Sally Hight for coordinating this very special outreach program.
Winter Relief Homeless Shelter
EUMC houses approximately 30 homeless men each year during Thanksgiving week.  Many volunteers unselfishly take time from their personal Thanksgiving dinner prep time and help serve our guests a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings.  During the entire week volunteers serve breakfasts, pack lunches, and serve dinner in the evenings.  The men are provided beds from the Arundel House of Hope in Glen Burnie.  Volunteers from church and community serve as chaperones.
Mission Trip
Each fall, several Eastport UMC members join Calvary UMC and other churches at places like Henderson Settlement or Appalachian Service Project where they help repair and rebuild houses for those without the abilities or resources to meet these basic needs.  No experience is needed to join this group.
ECCO (Eastport Community Center Outreach)
Our work with the Eastport Civic Association continues at our local Eastport Community Center, providing program support on the fourth Thursday of the month. Please be sure to contact Ann Rawls for information on volunteering and get involved in this vital community ministry.
Homework & Reading Program
This program continues to thrive with our dedicated volunteers working with more than 15 students a session. They meet twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday, and spend an hour doing homework, reading, and having fun and snacks.  This vital program is always in need of more volunteers.  No experience necessary.
Food Pantry
It is wonderful to see that donated food items continue to be dropped off in our Food Pantry Box in fellowship hall. Please consider bringing an item every Sunday so we can continue to operate this greatly needed assistance program.  Our Christmas and Easter dedications help to raise money for this program. We thank all those who participate.
Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF
Our little orange boxes continue to help children worldwide.   We thank everyone who participates! Look for those little orange boxes each year around Halloween as we continue to support the work of UNICEF.
As you can see Missions is an active ministry in our church and we need you!  If you would like to volunteer an hour or more in any of our programs, contact Jackie Cunningham 443-336-1915 or  JCunnin104@yahoo.com.
