New to Eastport UMC?

Thank you for considering a visit to our church!  We know that first-time visitors can sometimes feel a little awkward, so we want to make sure your visit is as welcoming as possible.  Here are answers to some frequently asked questions.  We hope to see you soon!

What time is worship service?
Our worship service is at 10:00 on Sunday mornings.

What type of service do you offer?
Generally speaking, the first and third Sundays of the month are more traditional and include Holy Communion.  The second and fourth Sundays have a more contemporary focus.  Services on fifth Sundays vary but are often contemporary with lay leadership encouraged.

Where are you located?  Where should I park?
The church is located at 926 Bay Ridge Avenue, directly across the street from the Eastport Shopping Center.  There is a parking lot at the back of the church accessed from Brashears and Jefferson Streets, and street parking is also available.

What type of church is Eastport United Methodist Church?
We are a United Methodist denomination.  Our logo, "Open Hearts • Open Minds • Open Doors" reflects our passionate desire to reach out to those around us.  Here's how we define these six simple words (rethinkchurch.org):
Open Hearts – Our hearts are full of love for our local communities and our world.  Our service reflects that love.
Open Minds – We all think in different ways.  But when we work together to serve others, we share a common goal.
Open Doors – Our doors swing wide, not just to let others in but so that we can all go out to serve our community.

What do you offer children?
During the service, nursery care with adult volunteers is available for children up to age 4.  Sunday school is offered for elementary school children.  Early in the service, we have a children's moment when the Sunday message is offered at an age-appropriate level, after which the children may go to nursery or Sunday school.  Parents are also invited to use our chapel, which opens onto the main sanctuary, if they wish to have their children with them, but in a space that allows children freedom of movement.

What should I wear?
Come as you are – we want people to be comfortable!  When you look around our church you'll see folks wearing everything from jeans and shorts to suits and dresses.

What if I'm not a Methodist?
That's OK.  Our congregation is made up of people from a variety of denominations.  And though we come from different backgrounds, we worship the same God and enjoy fellowship time together.  "God is big enough to handle all our questions, and we think the church is a place to explore them together." (rethinkchurch.org)
