A Journey Through Lent to Easter with Our Sunday Schoolers

The Lenten season is a special time of reflection and preparation, and this year, our Children's Sunday School embarked on a wonderful journey guided by a children's curriculum generously provided by Pastor Chris. It was a time of learning, creativity, and growing together in faith.
Our journey took a vibrant turn on Palm Sunday. After joining the rest of the congregation in the joyful procession around the sanctuary, waving our own palm branches, the children gathered to watch a engaging video depicting Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem, setting the stage for the important lessons to come.

One particularly powerful moment highlighted was the exchange between Jesus and the Pharisees, where Jesus declared that if his disciples were silent, even the stones would cry out. This sparked a wonderful discussion with the children about times when it's important to be quiet and listen, and equally, times when it's crucial to speak up for what is right and to share our faith. The children's insights were, as always, insightful and thought-provoking.
Following our discussion, the creativity flowed! The kids busied themselves with coloring sheets depicting the events of Palm Sunday and also had the choice of making their own construction paper palm branches or getting a head start on Easter decorations. The room was filled with focused energy and happy chatter.

Even after Easter morning, our exploration of this pivotal time continued. On April 27th, our Sunday School class revisited the profound events of Holy Week and Easter morning. We reinforced the glorious message of the resurrection by (bravely!) attempting to learn a new song together, filling the room with enthusiastic, if not always perfectly in-tune, voices. We also spent time drawing pictures of the empty tomb, a simple yet powerful reminder of the hope and new life that Easter brings.
Beyond the planned lessons and activities, one of the most cherished aspects of our Sunday School gatherings is the delightful conversation and community building that happens so naturally. Watching the children interact, share their thoughts, and support one another is a true blessing.

This Lenten season, from the waving of palm branches to the drawing of the empty tomb, has been a rich and meaningful experience for our Children's Sunday School. We are so grateful for the curriculum, the willing hearts of the children, and the opportunity to explore these foundational stories of our faith together.
Special thanks to our facilitators Molly Estabrook & Elaine Fors-MacKellar!
