Welcome!
For everyone born, a place at the table!
And we do mean everyone. Eastport United Methodist is the church home to people from all walks of life: single, divorced, widowed, married, people of various sexual orientations and gender identities. We invite all people to be in Christ's ministry.
Recently The United Methodist Church has taken a historic step towards inclusivity by removing harmful language regarding LGBTQ+ individuals from our Book of Discipline.
This means:
-
Discriminatory language that excluded LGBTQ+ people from ministry has been eradicated.
-
Clergy who perform or allow same-gender weddings will no longer face punishment.
-
Churches that choose not to perform same-gender weddings are also protected from repercussions.
-
This is a victory decades in the making, and it aligns perfectly with Eastport UMC's core values of radical welcome and love for all.
We remember our disappointment in 2019 when the denomination doubled-down on discriminatory legislation. Now, we celebrate the progress made towards a more inclusive and just church.

This change allows individual churches and clergy to follow their faith and understanding of scripture while respecting the beliefs of others.

Eastport UMC remains committed to actively welcoming and affirming people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

If you have any questions or want to learn more, please don't hesitate to reach out to Pastor Chris or Administrative Council Chairperson Jill Peddicord.
Let us rejoice in this progress and continue to build a church where everyone feels loved and valued!

In Christ,
The Eastport United Methodist Church Family
